Great movie, was the first version I ever saw… I think the absolute pinnacle would be a version with authentic dialogue (and subtitles), with that I mean French people speaking French etc. 🙂

I've been making a lot of wikipedia pages on the French Army units of the time and during the royalist eras. I have a keen interest on uniforms and accuracy. Let me just say.. HOLY CRAP the uniforms are so accurante it's hard to believe this film only had a budget of 35 million dollars, because those uniforms each are probably around 3,000 dollars. Especially the royalist onces which have silver and gold braiding.
I really hope more lost images are found to flesh the film out more. Brilliant movie nonetheless but I'd have loved to see the rumoured extra ones of Ligny etc

this movie is so historically accurate even down to the individual people. Historically, marshal MacDonald escorted the king to safety and was completely loyal to france, as depicted in the scene when he remains with the King until the end at 27:50.(you can see him in the King's back right side with the famous marshals bicrone hat)
